CPDD Travel Awards from SAMHSA/CSAT

The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) will sponsor up to 30 Travel Awards for substance abuse treatment practitioners to attend the 2011 CPDD meeting. This is an excellent opportunity for program directors and clinical supervisors to attend one of the premier research conferences with support from SAMHSA/CSAT. All expenses will be covered: i.e., conference registration, airfare, travel to and from the airport, and hotel accommodation. To be eligible, candidates must hold full-time employment as a director or clinical supervisor in a substance abuse treatment program and not be an employee of the federal government. Further, your direct supervisor will need to agree to allow you to attend if you are selected. Only one award will be given to any specific program. Previous CSAT travel award recipients are not eligible to apply. Applicants will be sent e-mails by the end of March indicating award status.

1. An up-to-date resume including contact information, previous travel fellowships, if applicable, work experience and academic experience. Please use "your last name_resume", e.g., Jones_resume in the attachment name.
2. A one-page letterof application on institutional letterhead indicating interest in receiving an award and including a statement as to how this conference will benefit your work in your current position. Please include a valid telephone number and e-mail address. Please use "your last name_applicationletter", e.g., Jones_applicationletter in the attachment name.
3. A signed letter from your supervisor stating that if you are selected you will be allowed to attend the meeting. Please use "your last name_supervisorletter", e.g., Jones_supervisorletter in the attachment name.
Complete applications must be received on or before January 10, 2011. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Applicants are required to arrive prior to 4:30 PM on June 17, attend a networking session sponsored by CSAT on the evening of June 17, the CSAT-sponsored satellite session on June 18, a breakfast sponsored by CPDD for the awardees on June 19, and remain for the entire CPDD meeting.

New Monograph from the Southeast ATTC: How do We Pave the Way Home?

On June 17, 2009, 150 civilian and military service providers, community stakeholders, service members, veterans, and family members gathered in Forsyth, Georgia. This Georgia Collaborative Meeting was the first step in a year-long process designed to find a definitive answer to the question: How do we pave the way home? The meeting was sponsored by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, and organized by the Division of Addictive Diseases, in partnership with the Southeast Addiction Technology Transfer Center.
The process begun at this meeting has one overarching goal, the creation of a seamless system of care and support for service members, veterans, and their families. To that end, this monograph is designed to A) build a statewide interagency coalition of military and civilian stakeholders dedicated to finding collaborative ways of addressing the challenges facing Georgia’s returning and transitioning service members and veterans and their families and B) draft a State Action Plan to support the mental health and addictive disease-related needs of veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF, the war in Afghanistan). New Web Resource: National Center for Primary Care
The mission of the National Center for Primary Care (NCPC) at Morehouse School of Medicine is to promote excellence in community-oriented primary health care and optimal health outcomes for all Americans, with a special focus on underserved populations and on the elimination of health disparities.
The NCPC team provides training for primary care practitioners, conducts practice-based research to improve health outcomes, creates protocols and tools for improving primary care effectiveness, and undertakes policy analyses focused on how to make primary care more accessible and more effective.

SPRING 2009 TRAIN THE TRAINER EVENT
"An uncommon learning exchange for addiction trainers."
The Training Point is a seven-week course designed to enhance knowledge and abilities in addiction training, grounded in the principles of adult theory and practice. The first five weeks and final week of the course are held online. The middle week of the course is an intensive three-day, face-to-face learning exchange. Participants focus on the various components that create successful training experiences: the learners, the environment, the materials and the trainer.

Methods for Disseminating Evidence-Based Treatments from the Frontlines of Community Treatment Programs
Abstract: This 2-hour workshop, organized by the CTN Research Utilization Committee, highlighted different methods CTPs have used to disseminate evidence-based treatment into their practice settings. Representatives from five CTPs presented, covering such topics as 1) the use of opinion leaders in promoting dissemination; 2) adapting contingency management for clinical practice; 3) the use of written materials to disseminate information to patients about treatment and recovery; 4) implementing a trauma-focused practice for women; and 5) dissemination through organizational change. The session ended with a live demo of the CTN Dissemination Library website along with tips on how the site can also be used to transfer evidence-based treatments from research to practice. For a small fee, 3 NAADAC contact credit hours are available from the National Office of the Addiction Technology Transfer Center, upon viewing the video and taking a quiz. You will need to view all the presentations in order to answer the quiz questions. The video shows all presentations in sequence, automatically advancing the slides in sync the video. It works best when viewed on a PC (e.g. with Firefox or Internet Explorer browsers), and may not run properly on Macintosh computers.
