Southeast Participates in ATTC Director's Meeting and CPDD Travel Awardee Events

Southeast ATTC to co-sponsor Mini-Medical School Training

You are graciously invited to attend the 2009 Mini-Medical School presented by African American Researchers and Scholars Workgroup at Morehouse School of Medicine, 720 Westview Drive, SW, Atlanta, GA 30310 in the Louis H. Sullivan Auditorium in the National Center for Primary Care (NCPC) building on Monday, July 20, 2009 from 8am to 5pm. This day-long event is sponsored by National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) and will deal with the important issue of Marginalized African American
Males.

The Mini-Medical School will highlight drug abuse and mental health
topics affecting African American males. This event is FREE and open to the public. Please access our online registration by clicking the link below and completing the registration form. There, you will also find the agenda for the complete list of speakers and important topics.

If you have friends or colleagues you would like to invite, please feel free to forward this email. A box lunch will be provided. Parking is $5. If you are eligible, you will receive six (6) CEU credits. You will be

Presenting on Aspects of Integrating Primary Care and Behavioral Health is presenter Ruth Shim, MD, MPH , Assistant Professor for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Morehouse School of Medicine.

Faces & Voices June 30th Recovery Advocacy Teleconference

"Building Bridges to Long-term Recovery: Mutual support groups/Peer and other recovery support services/Clinical treatment services, their differences and relationships"

This will be an opportunity to better understand the differences and relationships between mutual support groups; peer and other recovery support services and clinical treatment services and how to fit the pieces together to make it possible for people to sustain their recovery.

Cultural Compentency Training Announced for June 26, 2009

The Southeast ATTC is pleased to announce a Cultural Competency training to be held in Charleston, SC on June 26, 2009.

This training is designed to provide the clinician with the necessary knowledge base and skill set to engage in counseling with clients from diverse cultures. The participant will be asked to consider the reality of ethnocentrism and how it impacts the counseling process. Didactic information will be presented about several different cultural groups, and important tools for effective multicultural counseling will be explored. The participant will be given opportunity for self-discovery through experiential exercises and for questioning his/her own assumptions in a safe environment.

PAMI Training Announced for May 29, 2009

The Southeast ATTC will host a Promoting Awareness of Motivational Incentives (PAMI) training in Charleston, SC on May 29, 2009.

Research has shown that motivational incentive programs using low-cost reinforcement (prizes, vouchers, clinic privileges, etc.), delivered in conjunction with onsite urine screening promotes higher rates of treatment retention and abstinence from drug abuse. This Blending Team training focuses on informing the field about successful approaches in the use of motivational incentives (also referred to as contingency management).
